Swimming pool sessions and river application
This is a new course to give you a great start to understanding the kayak rolling technique, application of support strokes and fundamental boat rescues.
For an instructor is it always challenging and frustrating teaching the roll and trying to condence the hardest move in the book into one pool session. The mental and pysical stages of change and learning requires the elements to be broken down and practiced. Focusing on each of the 3 main steps per day is really benificial to development and understanding.
8 hours indoor pool time spread out through the week

Meeting for a coffee and chat about the week ahead. We will talk through the challenges of rolling a kayak and blade support strokes. Then a short session out on the river, covering stability and some standard skills. After a lunch break we move into the indoor pool and start to look at confidence upside down, capsize drills and the body movements of the roll.
The morning session cover the support strokes to help you have a clear understanding of technique and application, The second pool session in the afternoon will begin to look at issues with setup of the roll and paddle movement.
With a morning off to relax we begin the afternoon session in the pool and go over some common mistakes of the roll. It is important you understand what can lead to a failed roll and putting strain on your body.
Practicing more or the rolling movements.
With a river session to begin the day our first look and resuces and improving the support strokes. The afternoon pool session will look at how we finish the roll and work on your personal progress of the technique.
The Day is spent paddling 2 miles down river practicing the roll, A great fun session going over resuces and support strokes. At the end of the day we want to make sure you understand why the roll works and help you fine tune the next steps.
